This blog and Dan 3.0

Before we begin I'd just like to take a moment to acknowledge how real gangsters blog...

Recliner? Check.

Snuggie? Check.

Chicken in a Biscuit? You. Know. It.

Okay, down to business...

Here you are on the official Dan 3.0 Squarespace blog, admiring its sexiness but all the while wondering "How exactly is this going to tie into Dan 3.0?" Well, while Dan 3.0 is very much so still in its primordial stages and A LOT of details are subject to change in the coming months, this blog's main purpose is simple, straightforward and shall remain consistent throughout the course of the project: This is where I share my Dan 3.0 ideas.

See, while the name of the game with Dan 3.0 is community based decision making, it's important to keep in mind that I'm just as much a part of our community as anyone else. I'm going to have to be careful so as not to exert too great an influence on the decision engine, but I'm also not going to hesitate to make an idea of mine known if I think it's a good one.

Do you guys have any ideas as to other cool things I could do with this blog? Comments, ahoy!

Dan, I'm SO excited for dan 3.0!!!! With the blog, you can post all of your videos each day and go into greater detail about anything you couldn't put in the video.
I've already mentioned this a few places but I think the decision engine needs to be changed a bit. You need to be able to filter the results better.
Hope you take that into consideration :)

Maybe you could use it as a sort of liveblog if you're doing an interesting task? You can tell us everything you're doing as you do it (perhaps updating using a mobile phone if you will not be around a computer), and include pictures if you wish. I'm sure there must be some way to implement a blog which automatically refreshes on here. Great looking blog, even if it is a little simplistic.

Also: GOOD LUCK!

Dan, I'm really excited to see how your project turns out, and it's a real exciting to see this from a social aspect - anyone can see the potential to mess with your life (hello, 4Chan), however it will be interesting if the democratic aspect of this project truly will ensure your "safety".

What I'm most excited about is if people will see the potential in this project just /not/ to make you do funny, embarrassing things, but also unite people (e.g. "Nerdfighters") or create charity-like goals for the greater good. I do think it is a good idea to let the general followers of Dan 3.0 be updated as much as possible via vlogs and especially twitter, which is something you probably have thought about already. I think the reason why this is a good idea is that if people always know what's going on, they have a greater feeling of that they have an impact on your life, not only through the big, monthly goals but also through the smaller ones

All in all, I am very excited about Dan 3.0, and I also think that this is a great example of how awesome the internet is!

Hey Dan!
First, I'd like to commend you on this wonderfully overwhelming project of Dan 3.0. I think that it would be interesting if you update your blog with your feelings on the task at hand. Though I am sure you will convey how the tasks effect you in the vlogs, the blogs could be a more personal window into your emotions and true feelings about the task. After all, Dan 3.0 is as much a social experiment on the Pogotribe as it is on you.
Good luck in your endeavors, and thanks for decreasing the volume of worldsuck :)

I love the idea of a blog!

Can you add an RSS feed to make it easier to follow it?

August 2, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterfrcepeda

@frcepeda: It already has one; you can find the RSS feed here: http://dan3point0.squarespace.com/blog/rss.xml
And the ATOM feed here: http://dan3point0.squarespace.com/blog/atom.xml

Hey Dan, what happened to the daily, weekly, and monthly goals format? I only see 'tasks'. Wasn't there supposed to be a technical changes section as well that you were particularly enthusiastic about?

Also, I think you really need to be able to vote up/down ideas without going into a dedicated page about that idea! And you really need a way to sort by popularity, not just see the top five tasks.

Hi Dan,

I have an idea! During Dan 3.0 I am sure that along with videos, many pictures will be taken. Perhaps you can use this blog to share photo memories of people you meet, places you went, things you did (not Danielle, although you can incorporate pictures of her too...), so that we have a photomemory as well as a video memory of everything that happened...

Or perhaps you can write about funny experiences not caught on camera. Like if you went to the gulf to help clean, you will only be filming a little bit, the rest will be cleaning, so you can write about how you felt about it, or the people you talked to that you didn't record...

Hey bro,

I'm really excited to see how this project turns out. While the idea of letting a community of followers decide how you live your life is insane, it's also revolutionary. I really am looking forward to YOUR ideas, as you seem to always have great ones. Thanks for trusting us enough to do this. =P

As for the blog - Maybe lighter colors. Dan 3.0 = happy thoughts, new beginnings, a journey to be made. Not a somber, depressing travel of hardships and death. Just my thoughts though! I'll be keeping track of this blog!

@Jonathan: Hey, I've submitted a task proposal which is pretty similar: http://revision3.com/dan30/task/a-wall-of-memories
It offers both a physical version to use as a backdrop and a regularly updated digital version which could be embedded right into the front page of the blog if needed. Go vote it up! =)

im sorry to say this but the "Decision Engine" is !!!HORRIBLY FLAWED!!!

I would like to say that "on the moon" we have created a wiki page for the few Tasks we put together and it would mean the world to us if you looked at the technical changes list it has great ideas to help the DE but they havnt been able to get votes b/c Top Task, since they're in the open, have taken the vote away from them and any other great idea that is shot down with only 5 or 7 vote intill it is was away on a sea of pages

Wiki: http://southpoleofthemoon.com/wiki/index.php?title=Decision_engine_entries

Thank you for reading,
Swift

hrm. Isn't Any suggestion made by you already overweighted? you said it yourself in the FAQ videos, it'd just be you deciding what you do for this year which is what you were doign before this project

I'd liek this to be feedback on what you learned from the tasks (if anything) and just give insight as to how these ideas are effectign you.

August 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSkwiggs

I trhink maybe you could use this blog to sort of express how you feel about the tasks we are making you do, and how they're affecting your life.
More like a diary type of thing. I believe it's important to take into consideration your mood and your feelings in this project, after all, you're still a regular person like all of us at the end of the day.
Just saying, it'd be cool!

This blog is really great and Dan 3.0 is really going to be great. Maybe its fun to have a big digital clock on this page that counts down the hours to the end of Dan 3.0, 08.02.2011 so everybody knows how long they can enjoy Dan 3.0 and know how long we can take control of your life.

Hey Dan!

I can't wait for the fun to begin! I'm extremely excited for all the cool ideas that people will come up with. Hopefully, there are some that will benefit the community as a whole.

Let the decision making begin!

What happened to "Daily, Weekly and Monthly goals"? :/ I'm really excited. Best of luck :]

I really like the idea of a separate blog. I think it should be used for both rants/raves about things you've already done, as well as a place for you to propose your own general ideas, or to mention ideas already in the decision engine that you think would constitute total ballerism.

August 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKipEnyan

So, i think you could just talk about how dan 3.0 is affecting you and your relationships with others, and just tell those that are interested all the things you don't put in the videos. You could also give the backstories of random clips from the video, if the backstory is not necessary but is funny. :) Also, since i think there is a greater chance of you reading this comment than a task on the decision engine, you should set a consistent time of posting the videos. That way i don't log on too early, waiting :) I know other people want this too.
